KaalAI ("we", "us", "the App") is an Android app that provides Vedic astrology chart calculations and AI-assisted reflections for personal reflection and entertainment. KaalAI is intended for adults (18+), currently focused on users in India. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Account information. Every device starts an anonymous guest session (via Firebase Authentication) with no personal information required. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive the name, email address, and profile photo associated with your Google account, and link it to your existing guest data. If you create an account with a username and password instead, no real email address is required — your password is handled entirely by Firebase Authentication (Google), and we never see or store it ourselves. You may optionally provide a recovery email with a username account; we store it for potential future use in helping you regain access to your account.
Birth profile information. The birth date, birth time, and birth place (city) you enter, used to calculate your Vedic astrology chart (Kundli). This is sensitive personal information and is used only for chart calculation and to personalize your readings.
Questions you ask. When you ask a question, we send the question text together with a normalized summary of your chart (not your raw birth details) to an AI service to generate a reflective response. Our servers log the question's safety category and a request ID for reliability and safety review — not the raw question text.
Notification token. A Firebase Cloud Messaging token used to deliver optional daily reminder notifications. Reminders are tied to the device that enabled them; reinstalling the app or switching devices requires re-enabling reminders.
Sign-in country. The country your device appears to be connecting from, derived from your IP address at sign-in and stored with your account. We do not store your IP address itself or derive a more precise (city-level or GPS) location from it — only the country.
Product usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand how the App is used — for example, when a chart is generated, a question is submitted, or daily guidance is viewed. As part of these events, Firebase Analytics automatically collects standard technical data such as approximate country/region (from IP address), device type, and app version.
Technical data. Standard backend request logs (timestamps, request identifiers, error and category data) used for reliability, debugging, and abuse prevention.
We do not request your device's precise location. Your birth place is a city you select yourself, not a GPS reading. We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party ad-tracking SDKs in the App; Firebase Analytics, described above, is the only analytics SDK we use.
2. How we use information
To create and manage your guest or Google-linked account and birth profile(s)
To calculate astrology charts and generate AI-assisted reflective answers
To send optional daily reminder notifications
To maintain security, diagnose issues, and prevent abuse — including recognizing sign-ins from an unexpected country
To understand overall app usage and improve the product, via Firebase Analytics
We do not sell your information and do not use it for advertising.
3. How we share information
We share information only with service providers who process it on our behalf:
Google Firebase — authentication, push notification delivery, and product usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)
Fly.io — hosts our backend application and database
Our AI provider — receives your question text, normalized chart context, safety category, and language to generate a response
We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties, and we do not share it for third-party advertising purposes.
4. Data retention
Backend data (birth profiles, chart data, and conversation records) is retained for up to 365 days from creation or last use, after which it is automatically deleted, unless you request earlier deletion or a longer period is required by law.
5. Your rights and choices
You can review and update your birth profile in the App at any time.
You can disable daily reminder notifications in the App's Settings or your device's notification settings.
You can request deletion of your account and associated data in-app or by email — see Delete your account and data. We will delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or receive a copy of your data — contact us to exercise them.
6. Children's privacy
KaalAI is intended for adults 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures — encrypted transport, access-controlled backend infrastructure, and Firebase-managed authentication — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
